Matching an Injection Mold to Your Molding Machine

Matching an Injection Mold to Your Molding Machine

A mold must fit its molding machine: platen size, tie-bar spacing, clamping force, opening stroke, locating ring and sprue bushing. Nhan Loc Phat builds molds to your machine's specifications.

Matching the mold to your injection machine

A good mold is useless if it doesn't fit the press or the press lacks clamping force. Before building a mold for your machine, the mold maker needs its specifications.

Six machine specs to provide

Clamping force (to prevent flash), tie-bar spacing, platen size, minimum and maximum mold height, opening stroke, and locating ring and nozzle radius.

Estimating clamping force

A quick estimate: clamping force ≈ projected area × cavity pressure. For common resins such as PP and PE this is often about 0.3–0.5 tons per cm² of projected area including runners; engineering resins and thin walls need more. This is only a guide; engineers calculate it for each part.

We check your machine data, advise the maximum cavity count, build molds that fit your platens, locating ring and sprue, and trial until the mold runs smoothly.
