Permanent mold aluminum casting
In permanent mold casting, molten aluminum is poured into a heat-resistant steel or iron mold. Unlike single-use sand molds, a metal mold is reused thousands of times, producing accurate parts with a smooth surface and good mechanical properties.
5-step process
1. Mold design and machining with runners, vents and cooling.
2. Preheating to avoid thermal shock and ensure full fill.
3. Pouring at about 660°C by gravity or low pressure.
4. Cooling and ejection – parts need only light finishing.
5. Finishing: trimming, heat treatment, polishing or coating.
Advantages
Long mold life, accuracy and consistency, smooth surfaces, good strength and less waste than sand casting.
